Bradley Portnoy
ai engineering leader
I work on AI systems and the teams that build them. I was at Asana from 2019 to 2026, and at Shift before that.
RECENT WORK
At Asana I led the engineering org behind AI Teammates, our AI agent product. We took it from private beta to general availability, focused on reliability and core functionality, and it reached millions in add-on revenue five months after GA.
Before that I led AI Retrieval, the platform underneath it. It went from one search feature to over a million requests each workday. Agents are only as good as what they can find.
I owned our relationships with Anthropic, OpenAI, and Mistral. We shipped one of the first production MCP servers, and I wrote up how we tested Claude 3.5 Sonnet across business use cases.
CURRENTLY
I'm most interested in agent knowledge and memory: how an agent builds up what it knows, and how it decides what to recall. It's the problem I'm working on now.
On the side I'm building Crew, an iOS app for going to festivals with friends. It holds the schedule, the sets everyone voted for, and where the group actually is.
HOW I GOT HERE
I worked in politics because I want to make the world better for as many people as possible – in 2009 that meant helping launch the new WhiteHouse.gov. Eventually I realized the way I'm best equipped to do that is by building great software, so in 2015 I returned to my first love – computers – and became an engineer.
LIFE MISSION
To foster authentic human connection that breaks down the barriers of modern life.
