Director, AI Teammates Engineering

Asana · 2025 – 2026

Led engineering for AI Teammates, Asana's AI agent product. Three teams.

  • Took AI Teammates from private beta to general availability.
  • Focused the GA launch on reliability and core functionality. We shipped on time.
  • Managed the AI vendor relationships with Anthropic, OpenAI, and Mistral, including early access programs. The team shipped one of the first production MCP servers.
  • AI Teammates reached millions in add-on revenue five months after GA.

Senior Engineering Manager, AI Retrieval

Asana · 2023 – 2025

Led AI Retrieval at Asana. Two teams building the retrieval systems behind Asana's AI features.

  • Took five AI prototypes to production. The RAG platform grew from one search feature to over a million requests each workday.
  • Designed a hybrid RAG system: BM25 plus dense embeddings, with cross-encoder reranking.
  • Managed the Anthropic and OpenAI relationships, including early access programs, and wrote a public Claude 3.5 Sonnet analysis.
  • Helped build the AI org structure, and invested in a hiring pipeline for underrepresented candidates.
  • Helped reposition AI Retrieval from a single-product feature into a platform used across Asana's AI features.
  • Our context engineering work led to a patent application.

Integrations & Enterprise Experience

Asana · 2019 – 2023
  • Shipped bidirectional sync between Asana and Jira for enterprise customers.
  • Took Tableau sync from 11 hours to 11 minutes.
  • Coordinated scaling work for Asana's largest customer, an account with more than 150,000 users.

Technical Lead, Senior Engineer, & Engineering Manager

Shift · June 2015 – September 2019
  • Joined as an early engineer. Became a technical lead and then an engineering manager as the company grew from Series A to Series C.
  • Shipped recommendations for the car marketplace.
  • Rebuilt real-time search filtering on a bit-vector approach, cutting response times from ~7s to 7ms.
